About Tan Lam

Tan, his wife Thuy, and two children have been living in Des Moines, WA for eight years.  Tan was a refugee from Vietnam. After the Communists took over Vietnam in 1975, he was forced to quit school for six years. At the end of 1980, Tan escaped out of Vietnam on a small fishing boat and came to be known as one of the “boat people.” Tan spent almost two years in two refugee camps in Thailand and the Philippines. In 1982, Tan came to America with nothing; had only 4th grade education. After seven years of dropping out of school, Tan got back in school as a sophomore and trying to catch up without English skills were extremely difficult. Today, English is still his second language.

Tan worked very hard to achieve his American Dream. In 1990, Tan got accepted into Dartmouth and earned a Master of Science Degree from there. Tan received his teaching credential from Western Governors University.  Currently, Tan is a science teacher at Seattle Public School.  As a former refugee, Tan knows what it takes to make things happen from nothing. Tan feels that he owes a great deal to this country.  In his opinion, helping families achieve the American Dream is one of the greatest ways to repay his debt to America. Tan will work hard to help you and your family achieve the American Dream.  Please vote for Tan Lam State House Representative, District 33 Position 2 (R) MAKE A DONATION
